International Conducting Academy Berlin (ICAB) at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin)
Led by Steven Sloane, ICAB offers a unique studying opportunity for highly gifted aspiring conductors through regular conducting of ensembles and cooperation with Berlin’s musical institutions. The Master’s degree in Conducting and the Advanced Professional Trainingfor Conductors aim to provide graduates with the skills necessary to enter the conducting profession.
The Master of Music in Conducting is a two-year practice-based programme for students who already have a bachelor’s degree in conducting (or in a related field). The Advanced Professional Training for Conductors is a unique and highly selective one-year course aimed at conductors already beyond the master’s level or those with considerable experience seeking to refine their skills.
Students regularly work with professional orchestras and ensembles from Berlin and throughout Germany. At the UdK Berlin the university’s Studio Orchestra meets regularly to work with the conducting class, while the small class size maximizes conducting time. In addition to receiving instruction from Professor Steven Sloane, members of ICAB often have the opportunity to work with other internationally renowned conductors.
ICAB sustains active partnerships with many Berlin institutions to help bridge the gap between study and the profession. Our growing network currently includes the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Konzerthausorchester, Kammerakademie Potsdam, Theater Magdeburg, Bochumer Symphoniker, Magdeburgische Philharmonie, Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen and the Brandenburger Symphoniker.
